Dunham & Froese are Crushing!

What a summer. We had planned on opening our tasting room inside the Covert Farms organic market for the second season but our wines have had such a great following we had very little inventory left to open full time. So some of those who popped in where able to buy the few bottles we had left.

Now here we are in our 4th Vintage crushing grapes on our brand new concrete pad with new tanks, new press and the best pressure washer a girl could ask for! What a luxury!

It is the beginning of October and we have aready crushed Sauvigion Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Merlot! We are really about 10 days earlier than last year. Which is hard to believe because of the interesting weather this summer. This is the first year that our grapes are sourced from the Coverts property where the winery is located. The property is on a glacial terrace above the valley floor which does not cool down as quick in the evenings which has urged ripening along a bit faster.

We are excited to be releasing our 2007 Pinot Noir during the fall wine festival. There are only 100 cases. We made this varietal in 2005 and then the next  vintage the grapes just weren't up to par, so we waited. Last year the grapes were terrific. Pinot Noir expresses the variables of the weather and soil conditions like no other grape. Which is why you will find the flavours in the 07 are fantastic but different than our 05. If you still have our 05 we would love to hear what you think of the comparison. Like all of our reds our 07  is unfined and unfiltered so just remember to stand it up for about an hour or decant and get your order in for the 2007!

THE BLOG...

Since May 2007 I have been blogging. I've been adding little tidbits about Dunham & Froese along the way I'm just wondering who might be reading it. So if you have been following along let me know, if you have questions about us let me know and if you've never been to the blog, I invite you to visit it. You can find the link right from our website.

We do put in long hours that are dictated by the weather and ripeness of the grapes during crush. But here at Dunham & Froese we also remember to take some time to just hang out...keeping things in perspective. Wile is a great reminder to keep that balance but he is the only one who gets to nap on the crush pad!
