SUMMER IS HERE!

How do we know? Cause the kids are out of school and the Wineshop in now open!

We have had a great season in the vineyard so far. The clusters on the vine are setting nicely after flowering. We, unlike a lot of our neighbours suffered very little damage from the extreme winter temperatures we had this year. So the vineyard is green and full with only a loss of a few vines.

Gene Covert has been busy this spring planting our new field of sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. He has also added roses and blackberry bushes on the outer perimeter of the field to attract a natural predator that will help us keep leaf hopper at bay.
Between each plant we have left the ground cover crop grow, here in this photos is a wild alfalfa that is blooming. We continue through organic and biodynamic management to build an environment that welcomes friendly beneficials that help to balance the surroundings in which the vine grows.

With our two reserves blends now released 2007 Amicitia Red & 2008 Amicitia White along with our 07 Merlot and 08 Rose. Kirby Froese our winemaker is working on the finishing polish on the 2008 Pinot Blanc. Some seasons it is a bit more like wrangling the wine than gently coaxing it so he will release it sometime in July. There are only 100 cases so get your pre-order into us soon.

Come up to the wineshop starting July 9th and you can sit on the patio or head off to the picnic area.
It is located in Covert Farms Organic market that has great lunch menu throughout the summer and an organic u-pick area too. The wine shop is just inside what used to be an old draft horse barn that the Coverts converted into their market.
Shelly Covert will have our whites & rose chilled and ready for tasting and our reds ready to go.
